MEETING MINUTES
October 2007
Club president David Walker called the October meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Minutes of the September meeting were not recorded and thus not read. David explained that he and Gene Hannah were absent from last month’s meeting because they attended a meeting at Snowdoun concerning the proposed recreational park to be built near RAMM Field. The park will be built on the west side of Highway 331, and will not be near enough to us to affect our activities in any way. David noted that the park means a great deal to our friend and landlord, Winston Pirtle. Consequently, the Board of Directors voted to donate $600 toward construction of the park. David urged our members to make private donations, as well. Just $10 from each person would amount to a substantial donation.
Jim Windham, treasurer, reported a balance of $4850.67 in our account. This balance does not include expenses and receipts from the warbird event. Jim estimates the event netted approximately $100. Jim also noted that our lawn mower is getting old and often breaks the belt that turns the blades. The people at John Deere say this is a design flaw. David Walker commented that Jim should not have to waste his time fetching and changing belts and that we may want to start thinking of replacing the mower. Dave Carlton said the mower has worked well for 10 years and should not be replaced.
Jamie Strong reminded us that the Hamfest-RC fest is fast approaching (Nov. 10). Jamie is working on publicizing the event.
Gene Hannah reported on Warbirds Over Montgomery, noting that 26 pilots were registered and 48 planes were in evidence. Gene thanked everyone who helped with the event and paid special tribute to our warbird fliers for their role in making the annual affair a big success. David Walker remarked that he saw no safety violations during the event.
Jim Beam asked that we submit any articles, ads or other items we would like to have published on the web or in the newsletter. David Walker reminded the membership that Jim would like to step down as newsletter editor next year, and we need to find a replacement.
Mose Stuart brought to our attention the fact that the gate at RAMM Field is dragging the ground and is difficult to open and close. Someone remarked that the problem has been remedied.*
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm and members were treated to some pictures Jamie took at the warbird fly-in.
Submitted by David Walker (for Ed Sims, Secretary).
* As of 10-7-07 the gate has NOT been repaired
