MEETING MINUTES
May 2007
Please find below the minutes from our last meeting. Hope all is will with you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David Walker, club president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Dave Carlton was absent and there was not a financial report.
Jon Little(member at large) and Dave Connelly(safety officer) had nothing to
report.
Gene Hannah brought up a suggestion to the membership. The Warbirds fly-in
held at Opelika a few weeks ago will be the last one at that location. The Opelika
field location will now be strictly for ultra-lites. Also a home at the end
of the field was mentioned.
Chris Joiner, CEO of the Warbirds Association, stated that their membership
wants the RAMMs to host this event as well. They like our field and hospitality.
This means that we would host the first and last fly-ins of the year for the
Warbirds. This event would be scheduled for the last Friday and Saturday in
April and September.
Gene stated that he wanted our group to think about this and that Dennis McKinney
had volunteered to be the CD for the first event each year. Dennis will go ahead
and qualify as a CD.
RC Kyzer suggested the membership discuss this and the Board of Directors make
the final decision.
A motion was made and everyone present at the meeting voted in favor of doing
this. The board will also discuss the event and announce the outcome of all
of this at the June meeting.
Jim Beam stated for us not to forget the Swap Shop in the RAMMPAGE and that the newsletter is going very well.
Jim Windham did not have anything to report about the field, but was thanked on behalf of all of us for the wonderful job he does maintaining the club field.
David Walker made a few comments:
Our work tables are built, but some need to have a couple more coats of polyurethane.
George Garzon has arranged for us to have a new PA system for the field. We certainly thank George for this gift to the club.
RC Kyzer has finished the 27mhz board and it really looks good. Our thanks to RC for this effort.
If you see something that needs to be done at the field, let a board member
know.

Jamie Strong had a program on soldering that was very interesting. In fact,
just hearing Jamie talk about anything in this hobby is interesting.

IMPORTANT CORRECTION ABOUT THE FLYING C'S CLUB MENTIONED IN THE NOTES ABOVE
Dear Fellow RAMM Club Members & guests,
In regards to the club meeting minutes noted on page 4 of the June '07 Newsletter, Ted and Beverly Cowan offered up the following clarifications on the Flying C's Club in Opelika.
Please please keep these notes in mind & I personally say "thank you" to Ted & Beverly for keeping us straight!
Regards, Jim Beam RAMM Newsletter Editor / Webmaster
-------------------
Dear RAMM's,
I really enjoy you sending me the e-news letter. I very much appreciate being included in the field of friends of this club. Been flying with a bunch of you for many, many years.
I do have one thing I must bring to your attention though. Some information concerning our last Warbird event was partially incorrect. It is true we have had our last "Hosting" of the Warbird event, but, this is only due to the fact that Beverly and I have been doing it for eight years and the task has just gotten to be too much of a headache to us.
As many know, we do a great deal of the work and such and have just decided to step down and let another club take over the date. Now, that being said, there is the issue of it just becoming an ultralight place. This is not true. We still maintain an RC Club here, the Flying C's Club, and always will. There will still be smaller events for RC aircraft at different times.
We are just discontinuing the Warbird event. Everything else will remain the same. Of course, we will notify the RAMM Club of any upcoming event as we would very much love to have your participation as would we love to be able to attend your club's functions, time permitting.
One other thing I might like to mention is the 'house at the end of the runway'. There is no such thing and from what I understand from the new owners of the land to the East of us, there never will be. It was purchased strictly as farm country and open grassing for horses and cows and a really nice place for their grand kids to play and family hunting.
So, if you could mention that there is nothing to prevent our wonderful open flying now or in the future, it would be appreciated. We would not like anyone to think we are flying under any type of restrictions or that we are not in full operation.
Thank you very much and may God Bless you all and your craft.
Ted and Beverly Cowan
