MEETING MINUTES
March 2007
Dave Carlton, treasurer, stated that we presently have a bank balance of $5011.20.
Dave also reported that the items George Garzon donated to him to sell with
proceeds going to the club, netted $600.00. Our thanks for George Garzon for
this very nice gesture. Items left over from George's contribution were made
up into "grab bags" and raffled off at the meeting.
Our vice president, Jamie Strong, will have a program for our next meeting
on both soldering and electrics. Jamie was in Florida on 3 -1,2,3, 07, attending
the turbine event. There were 250 pilots present flying planes valued at $8,000.00
- $20,000.00 each. As many as 5 were flown at the same time. A few pilots had
jet liners with 14' - 15' wingspans. All planes were flown at 200+ miles per
hour.
The "Ham-Fest" will be held on 11/10/07, at the Garrett Colliseum.
The ham folks will be there and we are invited to have a swap meet at the same
time. Who knows. This could develop into a small Perry, Georgia. Mac Hodges
has been invited to attend. A mail-out flyer is being developed. Tables will
be $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.
Dave Connelly, safety officer, stated that there are now two starting stands for large airplanes at the end of the flight line.
Jim Beam, webmaster and newsletted editor, says that things are going smoothly with the newsletter, and webpage. May not be able to have a "blog"....this Jim will have to explain as I have no idea what I am talking about.
David Walker said that the clean up work around the storage shed is going really
well. A lot of stuff has been discarded. R. C. Kyzer has gratiously volunteered
to prepare a 27 megahertz board and will, perhaps, include some pins for the
DX7 radios.
The road dip has appeared again, from all the rain. Tommy Tanner said that he
will regrade this area of the road again. This looked really nice the way he
did it before. We thank Tommy for doing this a second time.
David explained that when he said to not place plane parts in the garbage cans
he was referring to wings and fuselages....not small pieces of planes.
David is still looking for the appropriate sized trash cans with lids attached.
The Warbirds Over Montgomery fly-in is now locked in for the last weekend in
September, 2007.
Th EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) has asked us to show our planes at
their event on 5-5-07. This is the same date as the Elmore County RC Club fly-in.
David and Ed will repair one table to see how it goes before having a work party.
However, I believe this has changed and David will give more up to date information
at our next meeting.
Someone mentioned that the roof is loose and needs to be repaired again.
Ken Scott, life member of our club, has pastored for the past 29 1/2 years
and retired on Wednesday prior to our March meeting. Ken will now teach the
book of Revelation full time.
Ken stated that he will have more time to spend in his shop and will let us
know if and when his store hours change. Presently the store hours are from
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., on Fridays and 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on Saturdays.
